Run Your Own Race

Run-Your-RaceIf you’ve listened to Joel for any significant length of time than chances are pretty good that you may have heard him make this point before. It’s a good one and we need to hear it and remind ourselves of it.

You’ve Got To Run Your Own Race

I’m quite certain that we’ve all wondered at some point during our lives, why our circumstances are different than others. The first time I heard Joel make this point I realized that was the explanation I needed to hear. God has given us all a destiny that is not the same as any other person. Once I realized that, it became much more comprehensible and understandable.

Regardless of what we do, we should all strive to be the best we can be and if that is not the best in our particular field, that’s okay. Just as long as we are doing the best we can do. I like the way Joel uses himself as example in many of his sermons and in this one he said: “I realize I may not be the best minister in the world and I’m okay with that, but I’m going to be the best minister that I can be.”

You may also want to keep in mind that being the best in a particular field can change on a regular basis. A good example of this is easy to see in the Sports world. Whatever team is champion this year may not be the champion next year. See what I mean? But we can all continually strive to be the best that we can be. And when we fall short, remember tomorrow is another day and you can start again afresh and anew.
