Over the years I have tried to train myself to start each day with this thought, “This is a day the Lord has made. I shall rejoice and be glad in it!” Although I’ll admit that as I’m awakening, there are many days when I find myself thinking about other things and people in my life when I realize that I didn’t think or say my intended first thought of the day. When that happens I immediately say or think it to myself.
I’ve never berated myself for not thinking it immediately upon awakening, because I feel that the thoughts we think while awakening is not completely under our control. Regardless, I feel it is a good idea to get into the habit of saying something positive to yourself as soon as you are conscious enough to realize you have awakened.
I once heard one of my favorite authors (Denis Waitley) mention that upon awakening he says “Safe again Lord! Let’s go!” I kinda like that one too, but I like mine just a tad bit better. 🙂
Today’s quote is very powerful because it tacitly hints that we can’t always count on that “One Day” being available to any of us. Our loved ones might not always be here. “WE” won’t always be here. It’s imperative that we let our loved ones know that we love them and how important they are to us and one of the best ways of showing that is by giving them our time.
Is there someone you need to make amends with? Why not be the bigger person and do it today?
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” ~John 15:12
